This isn't the ideal position, I don't think, but it is the best available for me to dispay my bells and buddha. And in the guest lounge we have a space where we have flowers and a small statuette - this is my public altar. I think we all naturally make altars all the time anyway (such as when we arrange the ojects on the bookshelf or fireplace mantle just so). The only thing different is doing it with conscious intent.
