Hi, my question is on the orientation of the bagua. I have read befor to place the career gua at the threshold of the entry door you most use. This would be my northern, kitchen door. My front door faces east and is hardly ever used. Lately I have been investigating this and I am finding everything says to start with the front door. Which would be correct in my case?

Orienting the bagua can be tricky! In Interior Alignment™, we orient the bagua by the architectural front door. There are actually 3 orienting guas to choose from: self knowledge, career, and helpful people. If your front door is in the left corner of the house, you are entering through the self knowledge gua. If the door is in the middle, you are entering through the career gua, and if it is on the right, you are entering into the helpful people area. If you put the career gua on the threshold (but the threshold isn’t in the center of your house) you might create missing areas of the bagua.

Great question! In my schooling and in my practice I use the front door for bagua placement 99% of the time. The front door is designed to be the “mouth of chi” or the place where energy enters your home. Since you don’t use that door often, I would suggest developing a practice of using the door every day. It could be as simple as using that door to get the mail, take the dog out for a walk or just opening it and welcoming in energy from the Universe.

Answer:

There are two methods for placing the bagua. The more traditional method is based on compass school feng shui, and places the bagua according to the compass. With this method your career sector is in the North. Most books on feng shui for Westerners are based on Black Hat feng shui. The Black Hat school places the bagua according to front door location. Assuming that you live in the Northern Hemisphere, if your front door is in the centre of the front wall of your house, it sits in the career sector. If you are looking at the front of your house from outside, your prosperity sector would be in the back left corner, your fame and reputation centre back, and relationships in the back right hand corner. It is important to choose the method of bagua placement that you feel most comfortable with and stick with it. If you try to mix the two methods it could get very confusing.
